Germany/Leipzig - Games Convention 2008
25 08 2008There have been many other cool looking games, but those may allready be known or I had allready seen them last year
The first I like to talk about is BattleForge. Battle Forge is a brand new realtime strategy game with comes in with no base building. Yea, you read right, no bases to be build. You may wonder how to achieve victory. Well thats a simple and hard task at the same time. BattleForge uses gaming cards as basic gameplay element. The game offers a variety of about 200 cards or more - the pre alpha version at GC showed up with 200 cards - and thus were divided into several elements.
To summon a card of any element you have to assign one of your three monuments. The monuments and your cards is everything you got to crush your enemies. The amount of units per card is limited and will replenish to 1 after the card was emptied. So you may start with some archers to explore the world and locate your enemy and then you summon one of your bigger units to scrunch those little wimps your oppenent is sending against you. I had a lot of fun while playing the alpha version which was in a good state. If you like fast realtime strategy you should take a look at the game too
The next time I come up with was completly new to me. On the day after the convention I searched through Google for it and found less info. What I'm talking about? I talk about Captain Blood. You're a pirate and the spanish fleet is there and you fight. Unfortunately I have no story informations. The game itself playes like Ninja Gaiden and lets you cut limbs like in NG 2. Despite the fact that this game showed up the first time in 2004 and the graphic looks still the same its quiet good. It no hyper bumbmapping blooming overglow effect game. It looks rather realistic most times with a great scenery. Beneath the sword fight with the spanish armee you can blow up ships and what I've seen on screenshots you can even fight on board of ships
Another neat feature is to buy new skills and fatalities. Yea, you read right, fatalaties. Like grabbling your opponent and do some pistol volleys. Anyway, the time I played the game was fun and in the end it crashed the XBox 360
I just hope the final game will not lack in gameplay fun as many games today tend to do.
Lets go with the next game. AION. You may allready heard about it. The visitors had the opportunity to play the localized korean CB2 version and from what I've seen while playing and watching others was great. I loved the Linage II look back in the days, but AION takes it much more further. More modeldetails, beautiful scenery and pvp fights on ground and air.
Air fights? Yea, as you have wings you can fight in the air. Thats cool and brings new strategies I think. I discovered this featured allready in Perfect World, but I don't like the game cause of some annoying things. The NC Soft stall had some cosplay show for Guild Wars and AION.
Finally, Street Fighter 4, it really exists and those who played it loved it. I stayed allmost one hour just playing SF4. Its awesome. The good old SF II feeling when you selected your favorite character - mine is Ken - and the fight is starting. Every combo I knew worked, even some Ex combos
The gamespeed starts to grow the more you know your combos and or defend yourself from them. There had been some serious great matches while I stayed there and played or just watched others playing. And even beginners had a lot of fun. The game is still easy to learn and I've seen girls playing it
For those of you who wait for the demo, i can say that it might be out in january next year. Thats what an official said. The demo will be definitely out before the final game lunch. The trial at GC came with 16 Characters to choose from. Hopefully the final demo will contain them too
Well, after around 7 hours at the convention and another 7 hours with the railway the day ended.
Some more pictures from my stay including myself at the AION stand by NC Soft and some weird thing i forget the game it belongs too.
